President Bush Selects C. Boyden Gray as Special Envoy for European Union Affairs
President George W. Bush today announced that C. Boyden Gray will
serve as Special Envoy for European Union Affairs. Gray served with
distinction as the United States Ambassador to the European Union from
January 2006 until his appointment expired on December 31, 2007. In
order that the United States may continue to benefit from his
experience and expertise at a time of great importance in U.S.-EU
relations, the President has asked him to serve in this new role. -
Statement on Federal Disaster Assistance for Nebraska
The President today declared a major disaster exists in the State of
Nebraska and ordered Federal aid to supplement State and local
recovery efforts in the area struck by a severe winter storm during
the period of December 10-12, 2007. -

President Bush on Thursday said, “…There are some in the world who don’t believe in the universality of freedom. I understand that. They say… freedom is okay for some of us, but maybe not all of us. I believe, deep in the soul of every man, woman, and child on the face of this Earth is the desire to live in a free society. And I also believe free societies yield peace. President Bush on Friday said, “I would hope as many people in the world would come to this place, it would be a sobering reminder that evil exists and a call that when we find evil we must resist it. It also is a — I guess I came away with this impression, that I was most impressed that people, in the face of horror and evil, would not forsake their God, and in the face of unspeakable crimes against humanity, brave souls young and old stood strong for what they believe.”

President Bush on Thursday said, “The establishment of the state of Palestine is long overdue. The Palestinian people deserve it. And it will enhance the stability of the region, and it will contribute to the security of the people of Israel. The peace agreement should happen, and can happen, by the end of this year. I know each leader shares that important goal, and I am committed to doing all I can to achieve it.”
