Statement by the Press Secretary
The President is deeply saddened by the shootings in Omaha, Nebraska
earlier today. His thoughts and prayers are with the victims and their
families this evening. Having just visited with so many members of the
community in Omaha today, the President is confident that they will
pull together to comfort one another as they deal with this terrible
tragedy. -

Fact Sheet: Meeting the Health Care Needs of Uninsured and Underserved Americans
Today, the President visited OneWorld Community Health Centers in
Omaha, Nebraska and discussed the success of Community Health Centers
in providing health care to medically underserved and low-income
individuals. In 2001, President Bush launched the Health Center Growth
Initiative and set a goal to significantly impact 1,200 communities
across the nation by supporting new or expanded health center sites.
The Administration has since exceeded that goal through the
President’s expansion initiative, funding 1,236 new or expanded health
center sites. We now have over 4,000 comprehensive sites across the
country. The Community Health Center the President visited today
became a federally-funded center in 2001 with funding from the
Department of Health and Human Services. -

On Wednesday, President Bush said, “On the way out here I spoke with my team, who gave me a report on conversations that the Secretary of State and our National Security Advisor have had over the last couple of days with their counterparts in the United Kingdom, in Germany and France and Russia. These countries understand that the Iranian nuclear issue is a problem, and continues to be a problem that must be addressed by the international community. A number of them have said so publicly, and I appreciate their comments.”

These countries understand that the Iranian nuclear issue is a problem, and continues to be a problem that must be addressed by the international community. President Bush Participates in Meeting on Health Care in Omaha, Nebraska
On Wednesday, President Bush said, “I believe these are important centers because they provide an integral service, and they take pressure off of our health care systems around the country. And so I laid out a goal of expanding the health care centers by 1,200, and we’re meeting that goal. And I want to thank members of Congress from both parties for understanding the importance and the vitality of community health centers. And I look forward to working with Congress to continue to expand the reach of these important facilities.”
