  • Statement on Federal Disaster Assistance for Wisconsin

    The President today declared a major disaster exists in the State of Wisconsin and ordered Federal aid to supplement State and local recovery efforts in the area struck by severe storms and flooding beginning on August 18, 2007, and continuing.

    In his weekly radio address President Bush said, “We are still in the early stages of our new operations. But the success of the past couple of months have shown that conditions on the ground can change — and they are changing. We cannot expect the new strategy we are carrying out to bring success overnight. But by standing with the Iraqi people as they build their democracy, we will deliver a devastating blow to al Qaeda, we will help provide new hope for millions of people throughout the Middle East, we will gain a friend and ally in the war on terror, and we will make the American people safer.”

    Buenos Días. Esta semana viajé a Kansas City para hablar ante la
    convención anual de los Veteranos de las Guerras Extranjeras. Hablé
    sobre la lucha ideológica que enfrenta nuestra Nación en el siglo 21 -
    y las lecciones que podemos derivar del avance de la libertad en Asia
    en el siglo 20. La presencia duradera de Estados Unidos y su
    perseverancia en ese continente ayudó al surgimiento de la democracia,
    ayudó a transformar a los enemigos de Estados Unidos en aliados de
    Estados Unidos, e hizo más seguro a nuestro país.
